Lowest Property Taxes
Hawaii has the Lowest Property Taxes!
WalletHub conducted an analysis on which states have the highest and lowest property taxes. Surprisingly they found Hawaii has the lowest property taxes out of all 50 states at an average of $432, significantly lower than the average American household property tax of $2089. New Jersey pays the highest property taxes at an average of $3,971.
How can a state such as Hawaii with such a high cost of living have property taxes more thean 3 times less than the national average? Hawaii is an unusual circumstance because of our large tourism industry, much of our tax revenue comes in the form of sales and excise tax.
Here are the states with the lowest property taxes from lowest to highest:
Hawaii: $482 Alabama: $752 Louisiana: $832 Delaware: $917 South Carolina: $984 District of Columbia: $1,001 West Virginia: $1,015 Arkansas: $1,068 Wyoming: $1,069 Colorado: $1,089
