Uber on Maui
Uber on Maui
Across the nation the the “taxi-cab” ride service is changing due to new company Uber. I’m sure you’ve heard of Uber, the company where you call for a ride from an app on your phone and an approved Uber driver will pick you up and take you to your destination in their personal vehicle. But is Uber big on Maui?
It’s actually been on Maui since late 2014 where it first became popular in Resort areas of the island but now Uber is gaining traction island-wide even in more rural areas such as Haiku.
Uber’s growth in Hawaii faced challenges as there was legislation to ban their activites statewide but did not pass as over 25,000 signatures were gathered petitioning the legislation.
The introduction of Uber to Maui and the entire state can help cut down on drinking and driving. Uber is clearly already popular with Maui visitors and slowly gaining popularity with residents.
