<< Back to Kaanapali Real Estate
About 60 years ago, wise Maui leaders could foretell the end of its plantation-based (sugar and pineapple) was approaching and that the island needed to diversify, to find new ways to create jobs and capitalize on its non-farm assets. The place they chose to start that effort was on a stretch of white sand beaches near the ancient capital of Lahaina – at Kaanapali. Kaanapali was the first of a new class of resort styles, the Destination Resort, where visitors could conceivably spend their whole vacation right on the resort. It became the prototype for similar destination resorts all around the globe and has been the hub of Maui tourism since its creation.
Part of the Kaanapali Destination Resort concept was the development of a fleet of high quality hotels and residential condominiums right on the beach and the development of high quality residential properties on the higher properties. These neighborhoods are often set along championship golf courses and sport ocean views that include Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe, as well as spectacular year round sunsets that force you to put down what you are doing and watch the day come to a peaceful end.
Of course, this level of quality comes with a serious price tag, starting with homes around $1 million and going up from there. Living in Kaanapali lends better access to the resort’s facilities and activities, but if you are price sensitive, there are a variety of other options just outside of the resort that give you some of the same amenities at reduced costs. Making the right choice that meets your needs requires the help of professionals who know Maui Real Estate. The Smith Team offers the level of professionalism you will need to find the right home in Kaanapali, either in the resort itself or in neighborhoods that surround it. If you are thinking about living in West Maui, don’t box yourself in. Go with the professionals who will keep all of your options open, the Smith Team.
