Maui has long been home to innovators in the food and beverage industries, and nowhere is that truer than Maui Brewing Company. Not only do they continue to delight people across the Hawaiian Islands with delicious craft beer, but they have also opened full-service restaurants at their two flagship locations on Maui and Oahu. In January 2020 Maui Brewing Company will be celebrating its 15th Anniversary. In preparation for the occasion their team has created what they call the Anniversary Blend, which is an Imperial Ale that blends the flavors from several different barrel-aged Porters, Stouts and Barley wines. The Anniversary Blend is set to be released in December just before Christmas.
A Brief History of Maui Brewing Company
Maui Brewing Company was founded in 2005 by Garrett Marrero inside of a small brewing facility in Lahaina. From that brewing facility the island was first introduced to three flagship beers, the Bikini Blonde Lager, Big Swell IPA and the Coconut Porter which have since become a mainstay for local bars, restaurants and beach-side parties. As of 2019 that first brewing facility in Lahaina now houses the start-up Kohola Brewery, and the bulk of Maui Brewing Company’s business and production has been moved to their massive new facility in Kihei.
New Beverages On The Way
In the years to come, Maui Brewing Company will continue to innovate and explore new beverages outside of beer. One of those new products is a line of canned, ready-to-drink cocktails called Kupu Spirits. The launch of Kupu Spirits will include three cocktail varieties: Whiskey Cola, Whiskey Ginger and a Gin & Tonic. The drinks will blend both whiskey and gin from Kupu Spirits with Maui Brewing Company’s Island Sodas. This bold new venture comes as a result of the leadership at Maui Brewing Company seeing an opportunity for growth in the ready-to-drink cocktail market and a need for modern consumers to have more options than just beer.
In addition to the Kupu Spirits line, Maui Brewing Company has also unveiled their own version of an alcoholic seltzer called Maui Hard Seltzer. The seltzers will be made from fermented natural cane sugar and tropical flavors such as Dragon Fruit, Citrus and POG (Passion, Orange, Guava). The hard seltzer market has been expanding quickly over the last few years thanks to health-conscious individuals who want to enjoy a low carb, low calorie, gluten free option as opposed to a sugary mixed drink or a craft beer.
Commitment To Clean Energy
As if creating award winning craft beer and delicious new canned cocktails and hard seltzers were not enough, Maui Brewing Company has remained fiercely committed to its renewable energy program. The program uses multiple tools such as solar panels, recaptured CO2, and Tesla battery storage with the goal of becoming completely grid-independent and self-sustaining.
The future is certainly looking bright for Maui Brewing Company and we couldn’t be more excited for the next 15 years. If you are ready to move to Maui or purchase investment property here, contact the Smith Team today!
