If you have been dreaming of owning a home in Upcountry Maui, then you will be delighted to hear that there is a new residential community of 32 homes being built in Pukalani called Kuaʻāina Mauka. The groundbreaking and blessing ceremony was held on July 18th to mark the beginning of construction.
If you have visited Pukalani, or are currently renting in the area, then you likely understand both the climate and location are very desirable for home ownership. With construction of single family homes and cottages in Upcountry Maui being slower compared with other parts of the island, it makes this new development especially exciting. The term affordable doesn’t exactly mean the same thing in Hawaii as it does on the Mainland, but be that as it may all of these new homes are being offered between $375K and $625K. See below for a site plan of the finished community.
Upon completion, Kuaʻāina Mauka will contain 16 cottages and 16 houses. Seven of the new homes have already been set aside as workforce housing, leaving 25 homes that will be sold at market price. At the time of this blog post, the number of homes that are available for sale is 20 with 12 homes already under contract.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mayor Victorino shared with those gathered how important new residential communities are to Maui’s future. When asked what his thoughts were on Kuaʻāina Mauka he had this to say, “This is an opportunity for families to enjoy Maui for many centuries to come—not just decades, but centuries. Long after we leave, the legacy will still be here for our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and future generations.”
Construction will be ongoing through the rest of this year, with a projected completion date set for some time in 2021.
