SuperMarkets special hours:

Foodland: special hours for Kupuna- the first hour of business on Tuesdays, Thursdays

and Saturdays will be for folks 60 years and older.

Safeway: Stores are open from 7 to 9 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays for seniors and at-risk customers to shop.

Target: Stores are reserving an hour 7 to 8 a.mon Wednesdays for "vulnerable shoppers."

Walmart: From now through April 28, stores open one hour early 6-7am on Tuesday for 60 and older to shop.

Walmart and Target also are closing earlier at 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively.

Whole Foods Market: Stores open one hour early for 60 and older to shop. Call your local
store for exact hours.

MEO’s services are constantly changing to meet the needs of children and families, the disabled and medically needy, and the elderly and other low-income individuals. HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - Unemployment claims are already starting to pour into the state as businesses shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In fact, there were so many claims filed Wednesday, the online system nearly crashed. To try and prevent people from waiting in long lines at the unemployment office, the

 What is unemployment?
Unemployment insurance is administered by the state and is meant to provide workers

with temporary financial assistance who lose their job through no fault of their own. In Hawaii, employers pay the costs of unemployment insurance through a payroll tax.

 How do you apply for unemployment?

To file online, go to : https://huiclaims.hawaii.gov Earlier this week, the governor waived the one-week waiting period for benefits. If you have questions, you’re being asked to call the claims office nearest to you:

 How much can I qualify for?
Here’s how the state explains the calculation: “Your weekly benefit amount is calculated

SBA DISASTER LOAN PROGRAM IS OPEN

Hawai‘i small businesses suffering financial losses due to the impact of COVID-19 can now file for low-interest working capital loans of up to $2 million from the Small Business Administration (SBA).

The SBA today approved a certification request submitted by Gov. David Ige, clearing the way for Hawai‘i small businesses to participate in the SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan Assistance Program. The loans can be used to pay fixed debts, payroll and other bills that can’t be paid because of a disaster’s impact.

Interest rates are 3.75 percent for small businesses without credit available elsewhere. The interest rate for non-profits is 2.75 percent. Terms are determined on a case by case basis, based upon borrower’s ability to repay.

The WIC Program of the State of Hawaii Dept. of Health is open and accepting families and individuals who is pregnant, breastfeeding, and children up to the age of five.

Drive-thru COVID-19 testing on Maui

Testing has begun on Monday March 23 at the War Memorial Gym parking lot at 700 Halia Nakoa Street.

Those with respiratory flu-like symptoms who want to be tested must make an appointment prior to showing up. Appointments can be made by calling (808) 270-7228. Calls will be taken from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Staff at the testing site will turn away anyone without an appointment.

Officials say if the phone line is busy or there’s no answer, patients should not leave a voicemail. They should instead call one of the alternate numbers below:

If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms,

such as cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice.

“We need everyone’s help and cooperation to make this a success,” Maui Mayor Michael Victorino said. “Per the Maui District Health Office, whether you’re tested or not, most people with mild symptoms are able to recover from home and on their own.”

Tests will be limited due tot he number of test kits available.
