The stage has been set for the amount of affordable housing available for Maui residents to increase dramatically over the next few years. The two workforce housing projects we will be highlighting in this post are the Hoku’ula single-family housing development in Haliimaile and the Kilohana Makai housing development in Kihei.
Hoku’ula
This single-family housing development is located in a sizable 63 acre parcel of land in Haliimaile. The development will include a mix of both workforce housing as well as market-rate housing and will be composed of 176 - 196 units. The project, which is being developed by Aina Lani Pacific LLC is expected to break ground in May, with the first move ready homes completed within 16 months.
All of the four floor plans available will be 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with varying configuration and square footage. The lots on which the homes are built will range in size from 7,500 - 8,500 sf. For a full breakdown of the floor plans as well as to find additional information about this project, follow this link.
Kilohana Makai
In Kihei, the Kilohana Makai affordable housing development will be quite a bit smaller than Hoku'ula in Haliimaile, but it will offer 100% affordable housing rather than a mix of workforce and market rate. The project will be composed of 28 single-family homes spread across 7 acres close to Keawakapu Beach. This project will be delayed, as it still needs to go through the approval process for special management. That being said, Aina Lani Pacific LLC has received county zoning approval.
The floor plans are very similar to that of the Hoku’ula project with each home having 4 beds and at least 2 baths. Sizes will range from 1,425 - 1,817 sf. and lot sizes will range from 6,000 - 7,000 sf. You can check out the website dedicated to the project by following this link.
