Market Update

Health care provider Kaiser Permanente will be taking over three Maui Hospitals in the largest medical privatization effort in Hawaii.  Kaiser reports they intend to spend $50 million on the facilities. 

Kaiser will take control of Maui Memorial, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital. They said they plan to expand services, update technology and aim to improve patient care.  The transition which has been in negotiations for a year will take effect July 1, 2017. 

Kaiser says they are committed to improving access to care in Maui so that patients do not need to be transferred to Oahu.  They are currently looking to fill positions that were left vacant during the year-long uncertainty about the new ownership.
