Market Update
The Southern terminus of the Lahaina Bypass will open next week Monday morning. This new bypass will allow Northbound drivers to access the existing bypass sooner, near Olowalu. This 2.7 mile section which cost $38.7 million to complete was blessed last Sunday.
For the first 3 weeks following the opening the section of Honoapiilani Highway 3/4 mile South from Kai Hele Ku street will be closed as workers complete the connector road from the highway to the bypass.
Department of Transportation officials say the opening of the new bypass is the beginning phase of the Honoapiilani Highway realignment. The newly realigned highway moves the main route into West Maui farther inland so it will be less affected by shoreline erosion and sea level rise. In the past several years the existing Honoapiilani Highway has been seeing increasingly negative effects from these natural causes.
