Market Update
The EB-5 Program, known as the immigrant investor program is a way for foreigners to legally immigrate to the U.S. and also avoid currency restrictions which some countries impose on their citizens. The program grants entrepreneurs and their families eligibility for a United States green card if they make a substantial investment in a U.S. commercial enterprise. They must plan to either create or preserve 10 full time employment opportunities for qualified U.S. workers.
To apply, immigrant investors must have evidence that they will be engaged in the management of the commercial investment either by control of day-to-day activities or policy formulation. The required investment amount for the EB-5 program is $1 million unless a TEA (targeted employment area) applies in which case the minimum investment amount is $500K. TEA are either rural areas or places where the unemployment rate is 150% below the national average.
The EB-5 program was created in 1990 to stimulate the economy through job creation and encouraging foreigners to invest here.

P.S. - The Maui Country Department of Planning is replacing its old paper zoning maps with digital zoning maps to correct old errors. Four public meetings will be held to discuss proposed changes and hear testimony from owners. The first meeting is being held tonight at 5:30 PM at the Kihei community center.
