Market Update
High season for tourism on Maui typically begins in mid December and runs through the spring as tourists from the mainland and Canada endeavour to escape the cold temperatures. While travel looks much different now than it did a year ago, we are expecting thousands of tourists to arrive on Maui in the coming weeks.
Another reason many people are traveling to Maui is to either check in on their condos and investment properties or to purchase a new one. While new listings of single family homes and condos have slowed down slightly in the last couple of weeks, we are still seeing some strong indicators through pending sales that the market is picking up significantly heading into high season. At this same time in 2019, there were 197 single family homes, 254 condos, and 49 plots of vacant land in escrow. Remarkably in 2020, single family home and vacant land sales are outperforming 2019. As of today there are 221 single family homes, 232 condos, and 70 plots of vacant land in escrow.
In our own team we can definitely speak to this uptick in pending sales, and it looks like we will be very busy through the rest of the year. If you have plans to travel to Maui soon, just reply to this email and let us know when you will be arriving!

P.P.S The vast majority of businesses that have been closed for the last 6 months have opened their doors to the tourists that began arriving on October 15th. That being said, there are still dozens of businesses that either lack the resources to reopen, or are still waiting for more favorable conditions.
