A Stronger Foundation for Maui’s Future
Aloha!
In the journey toward healing and rebuilding, today marks a significant milestone for our community. The County of Maui Office of Recovery’s Hoʻokumu Hou program has officially moved forward with a series of major investments designed to keep our families rooted here on the Valley Isle.
Through the conditional award of Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding, Maui is prioritizing the restoration of what matters most: our homes and the infrastructure that sustains them.
Key Highlights of the Recovery Plan:

519 New Affordable Rental Units: Selection of seven multifamily projects across West Maui, including the reconstruction of Front Street Apartments and Lahaina Surf.

22 Essential Infrastructure Projects: Critical upgrades to our roadways, wastewater systems, and community facilities—including the West Maui Senior Center.

Collaborative Funding: A strategic partnership between the County and HUD to fill the gaps left by insurance and FEMA, ensuring long-term stability.
As Mayor Richard Bissen shared, these projects represent a clear pathway forward. However, this recovery belongs to all of us, and your voice is essential in shaping how these funds are utilized.

The proposed projects are currently detailed in the second Action Plan substantial amendment, and the public comment period is now open.
