Enough is enough. How much political infighting, posturing, and chest-thumping is needed before the politicians in Washington wake up?
Since the debt ceiling showdown is capturing headlines everywhere, we figured we'd keep this week's market update short, concise, and to the point. How does an event like this affect property sales on a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific? Just like it does anywhere else. People are uncertain. When uncertainty strikes, people in general, have a tendency to pull back. This seems to be the case on Maui.
Homes, land, and condos are still going into contract everyday. It's the nature of the market. There are always buyers and sellers. But lately it feels like the foot has been taken off the accelerator. Things seem to have quieted considerably over the past month.
Maui is primarily a second-home driven marketplace. That means buyers come from all over the world to purchase on Maui. When an event that has the power to shake the global economy happens, we feel it on Maui—as do you where you live. It's a sobering reminder of just how interconnected our global economy really is.
