Market Update
Are you familiar with the Mark Twain quotation, "Figures Never Lie, But Liars Figure?"
This has to do with the elemental truth that the same set of statistics can often lead to to totally different conclusions, depending on the bias of the author.
As much as possible, we try not to let our personal biases taint our judgment. As Realtors®, we do have a bias towards home ownership. We also don't subscribe to the Doom and Gloom theory being promoted by many people these days.
On the other hand, we are not going to bury our heads in the sand, and pretend that everything is rosy. It is obviously not. As we have previously reported, sales are on the rise, and nationally, inventories have dropped for 12 consecutive months. At the same time, foreclosures on Maui are also increasing.
Is it a good time to buy? We believe that only you can answer that question. We would love to hear your thoughts. In fact, if enough people respond to this question, we will post the results in our next Newsletter.

P.S. Here are the comparisons from our Market Watch below with what we reported a year ago. Active Listings for Homes are down from 1100 to 1023, Condos down from 1533 to 1531 (negligible), and Land Inventories have increased to 592 from 533 a year ago. Sales from the previous 12 months were down significantly in all categories; however, Pending Sales, which are a leading indicator, show a marked improvement in both home and condo sales, but not on land. We take this to mean that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. What do you think?
