Rebuilding Lahaina

Meet the Builder Event Set for July 15

For Maui homeowners impacted by the August 2023 wildfires who are trying to figure out their next steps toward rebuilding, a critical resource event is coming up this week.

The County of Maui Office of Recovery is hosting a "Meet Our General Contractor" Open House on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will take place at the Lahaina Resource Center, located inside the Lahaina Gateway center (325 Keawe St., Suite B102).

This open house is designed to connect fire-affected homeowners directly with representatives from Goodfellow Bros. Inc., the master general contractor selected to lead construction for the County's Hoʻokumu Hou Single-Family Homeowner Reconstruction Program.

What to Expect at the Open House

Rebuilding a home can feel like an overwhelming maze of permits, blueprints, and budgets. This event aims to strip away the guesswork by putting tangible plans directly in front of residents.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • View Real Designs: Walk through sample home blueprints, review detailed floor plans, and look at 3D models and structural renderings of the program's available home designs.
  • Ask Direct Questions: Talk face-to-face with the Goodfellow Bros. construction management team and Hoʻokumu Hou program staff about construction timelines, site preparation, and what to expect during the actual building phase.
  • Get Guidance on Unique Situations: Program staff will be on hand to assist families navigating recent changes in household income, those who have already secured building permits but need construction assistance, or anyone who simply doesn't know where to start.

Up to $1.2 Million to Rebuild Your Primary Home

The Hoʻokumu Hou Single-Family Homeowner Reconstruction Program is a major piece of Maui’s long-term housing recovery infrastructure. Funded through federal Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) grants allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the program provides eligible homeowners with up to $1.2 million in direct financial assistance to rebuild a primary residence destroyed in the fires.

Key Program Details to Know:

  • Income Eligibility: The program is open to households earning up to 140% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
  • Funding Flexibility: Homeowners may still qualify for the program even if they have already received insurance payouts, FEMA assistance, or other independent disaster recovery funds.
  • Application Window: Applications for the Hoʻokumu Hou program are actively open, but the deadline is fast approaching at the end of August 2026.
